What i've learned this week

This week on the beginning of the science in term 4, i've learned more about sounds. On Monday, 21 April 2014, i learned more about sounds, vibrations and also how to find distance of the sound travels, the way to find the speed of sound when travels and how long can a sound travels. in order to find one of them either if it's distance, speed or time, we need to have at least two of them, for example to find the speed we need to know the distance and the time to calculate and find the speed of the sound.

The symbol for distance is s, then the symbol for speed is v and for time is t. how to calculate them is like for example : S= v x t , V = s : t , T= s : v. use those calculations and i can find the answers for the worksheet that the teacher gave me.

On 24 April 2014, i've learn that sound is a longitudinal wave because sound can makes compression and rarefaction in it's transmission. i've learn that the speed of sound travels depends on the medium that they travel, (The mediums are solid, liquid and gas), Sound travels faster in solid because solid has the most molecule from the three, for liquid is medium and for gas, sound travel slower than liquid. but gas, has the most energy than the three which means solid has the least energy from the three.

What is speed of sound? speed of sound is the ratio of the distance to be covered by the sound and the time needed by the sound to travel. there are there types of sounds; infrasonic, audible, and ultrasonic. Infrasonic are below 20 hertz (which is to low to be heard by human ear) Ultrasonic is more than 20,000 hertz (which is to high to hear by the human ear) but audible is 20 - 20,000 hertz which can be heard by the human ears.

And that is basically what i've learn this week and hopefully i could learn more and maybe more interesting next week.

Music in science

Music is a vibration in patterns that you can hear or effect through our ears. Music can be on high notes and low notes those are called "pitch". a Low pitch wave are quite far apart while the High pitch are more higher and closer. How do we see sound waves? Sound wave can be seen through a device called an oscilloscope, it can detect a high pitch and a low pitch because a oscilloscope is connected to a microphone that can picks up sound waved in the air.

Once you've arranged high pitch with low pitch in music then you can make this called "notes". Notes in music can be close together or also far apart. Now Rhythm is how close the notes are and how long each note last, we can play a note softly or loudly. Pitch, Rhythm and loudness, those are all ways to make vibrations of sound. Music is not just a pattern of tone and pitches, it could also be a pattern of beats, it is proof that a pattern of beats can effect the music.

What does ears actually do? well, ears are use to capture sounds, Sounds are vibrations moving through the air then our ear can capture the sound vibration and move to your eardrum and your eardrum will vibrate the sound to this place called cochlea. an Eardrum can vibrate at the exact same speed as the vibration. Inside the cochlea, there this tiny hairs inside which capture high pitch sound and deeper inside there are long hairs that capture low pitch sound. Then the cochlea will send to the brain through auditory nerve.

Not only instruments that can only vibrates, but our own voice can too. Our voice came from an organ name vocal cord, in order to vibrate, air must be pushed out from our lungs to our vocal cord. Tuning fork is mostly using for tuning instruments to make it sound nice to hear and with other instruments. A tuning fork can send out vibrations in the air, then the air are tapping against each other.

What can music do to us? Music can effect your senses, for example; it can make you sad, scared and feel emotions.  In order to make music more fun and interesting to hear, we arranged them to be notes, then Notes are arranged in group called measure, There are 4 quarter in a bar. To make a good music we must first understand music itself.

So i think that music is something that we make and we enjoy and have so many effects on our senses. I think that music itself is interesting especially that music is related with science.
